Walker Memorial Symposium

All the alumni, friends and admirers of Prof. Philip L. Walker and of his vast scientific opus are invited to present papers in his memory. Prof. Walker (1924-2009) was one of the most prominent founders and leaders of the American Carbon Society, including the journal Carbon and the book series Chemistry and Physics of Carbon. His lab at Penn State University was for many years the Mecca of carbon research. The recommended format is an analysis of results and/or a discussion of a topic related to one or more of his 300+ peer-reviewed publications that have had a significant impact on the science and technology of carbon materials ranging from coal to graphene and graphite. The list of these papers, including quite a few “citation classics”, is available at www.ems.psu.edu/~radovic/PLW/First_Website.htm. Personal recollections are encouraged, especially if weaved into the technical presentation.

For further details, please contact Jorge Caldeira, jorge.caldeira_carbon2013@superonda.com.br, or Ljubisa Radovic, lrr3@psu.edu.

A tentative schedule for the Symposium is Friday afternoon (July 19th), followed by dinner. After logging in to your personal account on the Carbon 2013 system, please check the “Walker Memorial” box on your Personal Data form and indicate your intention to attend the Walker Memorial Symposium and/or Dinner.
